Forbidden Desire
Vienna, 1919: Margarethe “Gretl” Csonka, a young woman from a wealthy background, is sent to see Sigmund Freud by her father. The celebrated neurologist is charged with “healing” Margarethe of her desire for a scandalous Prussian baroness. However, she stands up for her love and resists Freud’s efforts, going so far as to invent dreams in order to mislead the doctor. As a result of his confrontations with Gretl, Freud eventually concludes that homosexuality cannot be treated – and doesn’t need to be.
